Micaela McNulty
Practitioner
I have been riding and spending time around horses for as long as I can remember, and in 2019 I discovered that I have a passion for hoof care and began an apprenticeship to learn barefoot trimming. I started attending as many educational clinics as possible, and riding along with a few different hoof care professionals whose work I admired, which then led me to join PHCP and enter the certification program, and in summer 2020 I started my own hoof care practice. I recently achieved my certification, but the learning never stops, so I’m still dedicated to continuing my education for as long as I’m in this career, to better serve each horse in my care.
My trimming is individualized for each horse (and each hoof), and I take a whole horse approach – looking at each horse’s diet, environment, movement, and “job” to inform my trim and look for ways to improve hoof health. I keep horses on a regular trimming schedule of 4-5 weeks. I was an equine vet assistant for 4 years and feel comfortable collaborating with veterinarians, so I am always happy to work with your vet on rehab and pathology cases; in my experience, horses benefit the most when vet, hoof care provider, and owner are working together as a team. I welcome clients looking to transition their horse(s) from shod to barefoot, and I carry hoof boots for rehab/transition cases and everyday riding. I welcome all equines, including minis, ponies, drafts, mules and donkeys.
I’ve just moved to Vermont and started to re-build my business here, so I am accepting new clients. I serve all of Addison County, and parts of Chittenden, Washington, and Rutland Counties (within 50 miles or less of Starksboro). For horses located more than 30 miles from Starksboro, I charge a travel fee, and prefer groups of 2 or more. If you are interested in my services, please reach out! The best way to contact me is by email or phone call.
