David Huff

Intermediate Student Practitioner

I started owning and caring for barefoot horses over 20 years ago in Ohio, primarily focusing on cooperative training for horse and owner safety and softness. I began my own hoof trimming when one of my horses had laminitis and foundered pretty badly, realizing I’ve got to do something more. It was then that I remembered what a previous farrier told me a long time ago – to check out Pete Ramey’s methods. So in 2017, I began to study his videos to help me understand how to trim them myself. Leaving my unrelated “day” job of many years in 2024, in early 2025 I joined the PHCP training program.

The PHCP mentorships, PHCP clinics, and webinars combined have provided me tremendous hands-on experiences, knowledge, and skills in horse diet, exercise, and trimming. And I’ve been able to readily incorporate what I’ve learned into my own horse care. With all that the PHCP program provides and having some musical background when I was younger, being a PHCP student is like being given the chance to learn to become a musician from some of the best musicians in the world! I’m really glad PHCP exists to bring so much together to provide me the opportunity to improve horse wellness, and I am eager to continue learning more, including being given the opportunity through PHCP to learn about the latest research and discoveries!
