Jeannean Mercuri

Practitioner, Mentor, Clinician

My Barefoot journey started back in 2001 with my mare Piggy.  I started by reading all I could on the internet and in books.  Most of what I could find at that time was by Jaime Jackson, Dr Hiltrud Strasser & eventually Pete Ramey.  I attended any clinic I could find at the time which gave me a diverse start.  I was fortunate to find PHCP early in my Barefoot Journey and that same week I got on a plane to fly out to NV to do a Radiograph Clinic; the rest is history 🙂

I have since become a Mentor (2013) & Clinician for PHCP.  I attend continuing education annually such as NoLaminitis Conference with Dr Kellon, PHCP/AHA Annual Conferences, Pete Ramey Workshops, Dr Bowker talks and numerous online Webinars & podcasts; education is never ending. As a proud member of PHCP I serve on the BOD.  I was also a Certified member of the American Hoof Association and served on their Education Team before the AHA joined forces & merged with PHCP.

As you can see Education is very important to me, I have traveled to Canada, Italy, Spain, Aruba and all over the US to teach as well as help improve my Hoofcare skills and to increase my knowledge which helps me help YOUR horse.  Willing students can contact me about working with me.  Mentorships are $175/ day locally. I will do my best to set up a day that has a pathology or breed that you need help with when choosing a mentorship day. Sometimes I am available for travel, PHCP is also willing to help offset travel fees for its members.. Please contact me to discuss those options as it varies. I am available to train non-PHCP students as well.

Each Spring I host a 3 day clinic for PHCP that is about Anatomy, Booting, Casting & Power Tool Trimming.  It’s a great time to add on a day or two to do a Mentorship. I am dedicated to Diet-Movement-Trim for every horse. In the winter months I try to travel to Florida to host that clinic there to give students another option.

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to meet a wonderful Horse Rescue, Gerda’s Equine Rescue in West Townshend, VT and I work closely with them rehabilitating their horses, ponies, minis & donkeys here on Long Island to get them in optimal health while they wait to find their forever homes; two of whom I have adopted 🙂

I am currently not accepting any new clients, that status can always change so please feel free to text, call or email to discuss options.  I also can take in horses for rehabilitation work at my home when needed & if space is available.  This allows for daily attention to the horse’s needs which sometimes can be challenging for the horse owner.
